Information about Retail Meat Scholarships

If you are interested in committing to a 9 month program that will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to enter employment as a meat cutter, then an excellent opportunity awaits you! Through the generosity of your local Union 1518 and a partnership with Thompson Rivers University, you have an opportunity to complete a certificate in Retail Meat Cutting with full tuition and partial living expenses covered by Local 1518 during the 9 month program.

What you need to do:

• Complete an application form
• Complete the reference form (have an employer, former employer, a former teacher, a minister, or anyone that you feel can speak about your character complete this form)

Once Thompson Rivers University receives your application package there will be verification of your standing with your union. You will then complete an Accuplacer assessment that will assist us in determining your writing and math skills. Admission requirements into the program are a minimum of grade 10 math and english skills. If your test results are lower than the admission requirements, Thompson Rivers University will assist in directing you to appropriate upgrading programs.
